Once he was a simple beatnik until and alien came from Inner Space and doused him and his friends with strange radiation, changing the colour of their skin and mutating them into lumpy pussy freaks. They blamed Madman for their predicament, and began battling him whenver they met. Then one day, at the food shelter, Madman saw the man who would be Mr. Gum alone. They got over their differences and Mr. Gum discovered the puss was more like a cocoon. After shedding it, he transformed into a crazy stretchy guy, and decided (with the mentoring of Madman) to become a super hero.
